Giving notice to your supplier before you switch

You might need to tell your supplier before you switch. This depends on whether you’re switching your home or your business.

If you're switching your home

You’ve lived in your home for a while

You don’t need to tell your supplier you want to switch to Bulb. We can do that for you.

Once you send us your meter readings, we’ll send them to your previous supplier so they can close your account. You’ll receive your final bill within 6 weeks of switching.

You've just moved in

You'll need to get in touch with your existing supplier so they can bill you for the energy you use until you've finished switching to your new supplier.

If you’re switching a business

Check the contract with your existing supplier before you start the switch to Bulb. Look for the notice period, also called a ‘switching window’. This sets out the number of days in advance you need to tell your supplier you want to switch. It’s usually between 30 and 90 days, but can be longer.

Your contract should also explain how to give notice. Some suppliers are happy to accept it over the phone, others prefer it in writing. If you don’t give notice, it can delay your switch.
