If you’re already with Bulb

If you haven’t got a smart meter, you can book an installation at any time in your Bulb account

If you’ve got a SMETS1 smart meter and we can’t read it automatically yet, we’ll email you as soon that changes. We’re in the process of making all SMETS1 meters smart again, so they’ll work like second generation (SMETS2) meters.

If you want to switch to Bulb and you’ve already got a smart meter from another supplier

At the moment, we should be able to read it automatically if it’s:

  • second generation (SMETS2) - if your meter was installed after February 2019, it's probably SMETS2
  • first generation (SMETS1) and has the manufacturer’s name ‘Secure’ printed on it

If you’ve got a SMETS1 meter

At the moment, we can only read SMETS1 meters with the manufacturer’s name ‘Secure’ printed on them. But we’re in the process of making all SMETS1 meters smart again, so they’ll work like second generation (SMETS2) meters. 

So, before you switch to Bulb, you might want to ask your current supplier when they’re planning to upgrade your SMETS1 meter. If they’ve already upgraded your meter, we should be able to read it when you join Bulb. Otherwise, once you’ve joined Bulb, we’ll let you know as soon as we’re able to take automatic readings from your meter.
