The Warm Home Discount

You could get £140 off your energy bills under the Warm Home Discount Scheme.

Applications are open for winter 2020 to 2021.

There are 2 ways you can qualify:

Apply for the Warm Home Discount

The core group

You can get the Warm Home Discount with Bulb as part of the core group if both of the following apply:

  • you joined Bulb on or before 5 July 2020
  • you get the Guaranteed Credit element of Pension Credit

The Department for Work and Pensions will send you a letter between October and December 2020 to let you know if you need to do anything to get the discount.

You'll get the £140 discount by 31 March 2021.

If you pay for your energy monthly by Direct Debit, we’ll add the discount as credit to your Bulb account.

If you top up your meters, we’ll send you a Post Office voucher, with instructions on how to add it to your meter.

The broader group

If you're on a low income and receive certain benefits, you may qualify for the broader group with Bulb.

Find out about the eligibility criteria for the broader group. We've expanded the criteria for winter 2020 to 2021, so more people are now eligible for the Warm Home Discount.

Applications for the broader group are processed on a first come, first served basis.

When and how you'll get paid

If your application is approved, we’ll pay you the discount 2 to 3 months from the date you applied. We’ll let you know when we’ve finished reviewing your application.

If you pay for your energy monthly by Direct Debit, we’ll add the discount as credit to your Bulb account.

If you top up your meters, we’ll send you a Post Office voucher, with instructions on how to add it to your meter.

Why we ask for documents

When you apply, you'll be asked to submit proof of your eligibility, such as a letter showing you get one of the qualifying benefits, or the birth certificate of the child you're responsible for.

Ofgem asks us to get proof of eligibility under the broader group criteria. Our criteria include a wide range of benefits to make it easier for our members to provide proof that they're eligible.

We’re audited by Ofgem to make sure we're applying our approved criteria properly.

We understand that the information in your documents is sensitive, so we store it on a secure database. We’ll delete all the documents 6 months after the scheme ends for 2020 to 2021.
