The Warm Home Discount

Warm Home Discount applications are open for winter 2019 to 2020. We'll provide eligible households with £140 credit towards their energy bills for the winter.

There are 2 ways you can qualify for the Warm Home Discount Scheme:

Apply for the Warm Home Discount

The core group

You can get the Warm Home Discount with Bulb as part of the core group if both of the following apply: 

  • you were a Bulb member on 7 July 2019
  • you get the Guaranteed Credit element of Pension Credit

We'll add £140 to your Bulb account by 31 March 2020. 

If you were with a different energy supplier on 7 July 2019, that supplier is responsible for making the payment directly to you.

The Department for Work and Pensions will send you a letter to let you know what you need to do to get the credit.

If you haven't received a letter by 31 December 2019 and think you should have, contact the Warm Home Discount helpline on 0800 731 0214 (Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm).

The broader group

If you're on a low income and receive certain benefits, you may qualify for the broader group with Bulb. We've expanded our broader group criteria for winter 2019 to 2020.

You can apply right away. Applications for the broader group are processed on a first come, first served basis. 

When you'll get paid

If your application is approved, we’ll pay you the discount 2 to 3 months from the date you applied. We’ll let you know when we’ve finished reviewing your application.

Why we ask for documents

When you apply, you'll be asked to submit proof of your eligibility, such as a letter showing you get one of the qualifying benefits, or the birth certificate of the child you're responsible for.

Ofgem asks us to get proof of eligibility under the broader group criteria. Our criteria include a wide range of benefits to make it easier for our members to provide proof that they're eligible. 

We’re audited by Ofgem to make sure we're applying our approved criteria properly.

We understand that the information in your documents is sensitive, so we store it on a secure database. We’ll delete all the documents 6 months after the scheme ends for 2019 to 2020.
