The only data we will receive from your smart meter are your meter readings, your meter supply numbers and your meter serial numbers. No personally identifiable data is sent.
We will only share your smart meter data with the following organisations, if it’s necessary:
- Energy industry partners: including other suppliers, network operators and energy market administrators. These partners help us deliver energy to your home.
- Market regulators like Ofgem and consumer protection organisations such as the Energy Ombudsman, when we are obliged to do so under regulations.
- Law enforcement bodies, such as the police, to protect against fraud, or to aid criminal investigations.
If we need to share your data with anyone else, we will contact you to let you know.
If you leave Bulb we will still have access to the smart data you have shared with us before leaving. The readings will be anonymised so will no longer be identifiable as your own. We will stop connecting to your meter and will stop receiving your smart readings as soon as you leave Bulb.
To read more about smart data usage, Citizens Advice have created a ‘Smart meter data guide’. This gives you a clear overview of what your supplier can do with your smart data, and your rights as a consumer.
