Switching to Bulb with a smart top up (prepay) meter

If you have a compatible smart top up (prepay) meter, you can switch to Bulb on our Smart Pay As You Go plan. We'll ask you some questions to check if you're compatible when you sign up.

Switching takes 21 days. If there’s any credit on your meter, it won’t carry over when you join us. So you’ll need to use up your credit before your switch completes.

Once you’re on our Smart Pay As You Go plan, you can top up your electricity and gas meters online, in the Bulb app, or at any PayPoint store. You can also use the app to keep track of your top ups from your phone.

If you’ve got debt on your meters

If there’s:

  • less than £500 of debt on your meters, you can switch to Bulb
  • more than £500 of debt on your meters, before you can switch you’ll need to work with your current supplier to pay some of it off to get it below £500 

We’ll need to confirm you’re happy to transfer any debt over to us before you switch. And we’ll set up a repayment plan to help you pay it back once you’ve joined.
