An export meter records how much energy you export to the grid from your solar photovoltaic panels. An export meter is not the same as your electricity meter.
Ofgem doesn't require small generators to have an export meter, so most people don't have one at home. If you’re not sure whether you have an export meter or not, ask your solar installer. They'll be able to let you know.
If you have a smart meter, it may be able to record your generation export, as well as your electricity import from the grid. If it does, you will be paid for exactly how much you export. See our FIT payments page for more information about how FIT payments are calculated.
