We can automatically read first generation SMETS1 meters with the manufacturer’s name ‘Secure’ printed on them.

We’re making all other types of SMETS1 meter, and older Non-SMETS Smart (NSS) meters, smart again by summer 2021. If you’ve got one of these meters, we’ll email you as soon as we can take automatic readings from it. In the meantime, don’t forget to send us your meter readings

Once your smart meter is up and running again, we’ll set it to take automatic daily readings. You can change how often your meter takes readings at any time.

Connecting your In-Home Display

If you were given an In-Home Display (IHD) when your meter was first installed, it should start working again once we can read your meter automatically.

To get it going, plug it in less than 5 metres away from your electricity meter and turn it on. To make sure the software gets updated, we’d recommend keeping it connected to Wi-Fi.

If you weren’t given an IHD by your previous supplier, we’re unable to supply one for now. But we hope to be able to by the end of 2021.

Your IHD should have come with an instruction manual. But if you can’t find it, or  you need a reminder of how it works, download an IHD guide.
