A standing charge is a daily fee for keeping your gas and electricity supplies connected to the network.

The charge covers the cost of engineer visits and meter maintenance. Part of the standing charge also goes towards government schemes like reducing carbon emissions and helping vulnerable homes.

The standing charge isn’t related to the amount of gas or electricity you use, which is why there could still be a fee to pay if your property has been left empty for a while.

The standing charge for Bulb members who pay monthly is:

  • 20.44p for electricity
  • 20.44p for gas

And the standing charge for Bulb top-up (also called prepay) members is:

  • 26.56p for electricity
  • 28.31p for gas
