SmartThings Energy Control (STEC) lets you take your In-Home Display (IHD) with you wherever you are. Below are questions about how to do it.
The IHD and SmartThings app don't show the same energy costs
The app will always show a cost 20p higher than the In-Home Display (IHD) in your home. That's because it includes the standing charge, a daily fee all energy suppliers charge to pay for maintaining the energy network. At Bulb that is 20.44p per day for gas, and the same for electricity.
If the cost on the app varies more than 20p, then it might be because you're trying our smart tariff. The STEC currently only uses Bulb's single Vari-fair tariff to calculate costs. If you're on our smart tariff, the costs shown in the SmartThings app won't match the number shown on your IHD.
If you're on Bulb's single Vari-fair tariff, and the costs vary more than 20p per day, make sure you're looking at the same fuel type and time period on both your IHD and the app. If you are, contact Samsung with readings taken from the IHD and app at the same time.
How to find your IHD's device ID
The device ID (or GUID) can be found on the bottom of your IHD. It's the long series of digits starting with "GUID : 0C-A2-F4-00-00-". Any 0s you see are the number zero.
How to find the four-word passphrase on your IHD
The passphrase can be found under "Settings" on your IHD. Select "Pair CAD to account" on an IHD3 or "Account Pairing" on an IHD6. Our step-by-step guide to connecting your IHD with the SmartThings app explains more.
Your IHD will only generate a passphrase if it receives a message from the SmartThings app. To do this, you must have followed the previous steps to pair the IHD with the app.

What's the difference between an IHD and a CAD?
Most of Bulb's IHDs have a built-in 'CAD' or Consumer Access Device. Other companies supply the CAD as a separate hub that you plug into your broadband router. If you have a CAD, and connect it to your home Wi-Fi, it works as a bridge, sending much more frequent readings (around once per minute) than the meters can over the radio or mobile network.
I don't know if my IHD can connect to Wi-Fi
If we gave you an IHD6, with a white border, then it can connect to Wi-fi. Press Menu and then Settings to take the steps to connect it.
If we gave you an IHD3, with an all-black case, then you'll need to check if it can connect to Wi-fi.
If another energy supplier installed your smart meter and you're not sure if your IHD has a CAD built in, check the model number on the underside of your IHD. If it includes the letters "CAD" (eg "IHD6 CAD PPMID"), then you're good to go.
How to tell if your IHD is an IHD3 or an IHD6
We're currently installing two different versions of IHDs, called an IHD3 and IHD6. If your IHD is black, you have an IHD3. If your IHD has a white border, you have an IHD6.
Can I swap my IHD3 for an IHD6?
No, it's not possible to swap your IHD.
The SmartThings app says my IHD is offline
This may be because your IHD is not connected to your Wi-Fi properly. Check your internet connection is working, and that the Wi-Fi indicator icon is showing on your IHD. The icon looks like a set of curved bars.
If your internet appears to be connected, then restart your IHD by holding the round, flat power button on the back of the IHD for 10 seconds.
Connecting your IHD to dual-band (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) Wi-Fi
It doesn't matter if you connect your IHD to the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band of Wi-Fi. Either one should work.
