Offsetting your carbon footprint with Bulb

We all need to reduce our impact on the planet. So we built a Carbon Calculator to work out the carbon emissions produced by your daily life, and help you offset them.

You can offset your carbon footprint with Bulb even if we don't supply your energy. And you can keep offsetting with us, if you switch your energy supply away from Bulb.

Here's some information about how offsetting your footprint with the Carbon Calculator works.

How much it costs

The amount you pay to offset depends on the size of your carbon footprint. Once you’ve used the calculator to work out how big your annual footprint is, we split it into 12 parts so you can spread the cost by paying monthly.

For example, it would cost £7.58 a month to offset the average UK footprint of 13 tonnes.

Viewing your offsetting account

You can see your account in the 'Carbon footprint' section of your Bulb account. At the moment it shows:

  • your annual carbon footprint
  • how much you pay each month
  • your payments so far

Once you’re there, you can also click on ‘Manage payments’ to see your payment details.

And we're hoping to add new data and features as more people start using their offsetting accounts.

Managing your payments

We're building tools so you can manage your offsetting payments in the 'Carbon footprint' section of your Bulb account. Once you're there, click on ‘Manage payments’ to see:

  • how much you pay each month
  • which day of the month you pay
  • your card details

In the future, you’ll be able to update some of these details.

Cancelling your payments

You can cancel offsetting at any time, and we’ll stop taking payments. Simply go to the 'Carbon footprint' section in your Bulb account and click on 'Manage payments'.

If Bulb also supplies your energy, cancelling the offsetting of your carbon footprint won’t affect your energy account with us.

Getting a refund

If you cancel within 14 days of signing up to offset, then we’ll refund your first payment. It should take about 5 to 10 days to reach your bank account.

After 14 days, we can’t refund payments already taken.

And if you cancel with less than 1 day before your next payment date, there's a chance that your payment will still go through. If this happens, get in touch using the email address associated with your Bulb account, and we’ll sort out a refund.

If you want to recalculate your carbon footprint

You can't recalculate your footprint just yet. We’re working on new tools for your account so you can change the amount you pay, or recalculate your footprint if you make changes to your lifestyle.
