Apply for help with your energy costs with Bulb's Energy Fund

Our Energy Fund offers advice and financial support to eligible members who need help with their energy costs. 

We’ve partnered with Citizens Advice Plymouth, an organisation that specialises in supporting people with energy debt. The Energy Fund is available to our members across the country, not just in Plymouth.

What help the Energy Fund offers

If you apply, we’ll put you in touch with Citizens Advice Plymouth. They can give you advice on budgeting, managing debt, and saving energy, as well as the benefits you might be entitled to.

Depending on your circumstances, we may also be able to:

  • offer you a £140 grant
  • write off your energy debts up to £2,000
  • offer you energy efficient appliances


Eligibility

As well as energy saving advice, you may also be eligible for extra support from Bulb’s Energy Fund:

A £140 grant to help with energy costs 

You might be eligible for a £140 grant to help with your energy costs if either:

  • you live in an area of England, Scotland or Wales with high levels of fuel poverty - we’ll use your postcode to check this when you apply
  • you don’t have access to the gas grid - we’ll use your postcode to check this when you apply
  • you or someone you live with has a disability or long term health problem
  • you pay for your energy by topping up your meter

You can still get the grant if you have received, or you're planning to receive, the Warm Home Discount between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022.

Debt write off up to £2,000 

We may be able to clear up to £2,000 of your energy debt with us if all of the following apply:

  • you are in financial difficulty
  • you have over £150 of energy debt, but are able to pay for your ongoing energy usage
  • you, or someone you live with, has a disability or illness, or has been through a significant life change in the past 18 months which affects your ability to pay

Energy efficient appliances

You might be eligible to receive a free energy efficient appliance if all of the following apply:

  • you are in financial difficulty
  • you have one or more essential appliance that’s either faulty or over 12 years old

Essential appliances covered under the scheme are:

  • ovens
  • washing machines
  • fridges
  • freezers
  • microwaves

 

How to apply

If you think you might be eligible, applications for Bulb's Energy Fund are open.

Once you have applied, Citizens Advice Plymouth will contact you within 10 working days to confirm your advice appointment and discuss the support you might be eligible for.
