The Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS)

From October to March you’ll get £400 off your energy bills with the UK government’s Energy Bills Support Scheme. You’ll receive it in instalments of £66 in October and November, and £67 each month from December to March. You don’t need to apply, and you don’t need to pay it back.

If you pay by Direct Debit or top up with Smart Pay As You Go, you’ll get the payment automatically: as a credit in your Bulb account or as a deduction from your monthly payment amount. We’ll confirm how you’ll receive it before the first instalment in October.

If you top up using a key or card, you’ll get a voucher each month by email or post. Make sure your contact details are up to date in your Bulb account, and you’ll be able to redeem the voucher wherever you usually top up.

You won’t be asked for your bank details to receive any of the payments. The government has warned about potential scams, so always contact us if you’re concerned about any communications you receive.

If you move out during the six-month period, you’ll still benefit from the remaining instalments at your new address. And if you switch supplier during the six months, your new supplier will credit you with any remaining instalments instead.

If you rent your property and the electricity is in your landlord’s name, Ofgem says they must pass on the discount payments to you.

If you’re eligible for the Warm Home Discount or any other grants, you’ll receive them as well as your Energy Bills Support Scheme payments.

You can find more details about EBSS on the government’s website, and we’ll update this page with more information as we have it.
